The alarm is set and the coffee timer is ready to go at 4:30am. I wake at 4AM contimplating whether the extra 30 is worth it......I'm up. Coffee in hand I'm on the road in minutes, alone. I've always like the solitude and relaxed feel of driving before dawn. There is something comforting about slowly moving along the route that on other days you would be franticly shifting to get where you're going. With the stream not yet decided I reach the edge of town. Time to decide. I choose to hit up something close that has some bank induced challenges but the prospect of trouty rewards. I arrive way too early and calmly watch the moon and sip some joe awaiting for enough light to warrant an cast. I didn't need to put a line on the water to enjoy this morning on this stream. The sun and the moon where doing a dance on opposite ends of the sky for me that day. After taking in the rising and setting, I looked for that cherry hole that treated me well in the past. It wasn't meant to be and after a short stint, I was on my way to somewhere a bit more "fisherman friendly".
- Scene II -
Not a car in site the stand-by looks promising. It is still early and some dew can be found on the low lying grasses but a chill remains in the air. I decide to head further down than usual with low expectation. It's greedy to expect much more than the beautiful day alone I tell myself. Fall colors, cold water, birds abound and quiet is all I need.
- Scene III -
Wham! Second cast in blind, flat water and it's game on! The next hour is more of the same with combinations of top water fun and drifting nymphs down below. A tight horse shoe bend offer much promise and didn't fail to deliver. Six brownies in about 8 cast! I don't need another fish to make it a day.
